Delicious Curry

Mum, dad and I went to Maharanis Indian restaurant on the 15th December to celebrate dad’s birthday.

The restaurant was an unusual shaped room with beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The staff were friendly, kind and helpful.

We ordered from the Sunday night’s special menu which include poppadoms and pickles, mix starter, main course, Bombay or Sag Aloo, boiled or pulao rice and naan bread. We started with a delicious crunchy papadum with pickles followed by a special mixed starter. My favourite part was the sheek kebab followed by the chicken tikka and onion bhaji equally. The chicken was tender and was a contrast to the crunchy salad.

For our main meal we ordered the Lamb Jehangiri Krahi, and the Chicken Murg Masala. The peppers and onions in the lamb dish were chunky, fresh and crunchy, and the lamb was soft and tender, it melted in my mouth. The curry sauce was slightly spicy and full of flavour. The chicken was moist and soft and the sauce fruity and spicy.

To go with the curries we had pulao rice it was nice and soft and tasted like rice. The bombay potatoes was my favourite indian dish. I liked the texture of the potatoes and the flavour of the sauce. The potatoes were cooked well, firm, not too soft and not too hard. The Naan bread was garlicky, soft with some crispy edges. It held together well but could be torn and shared easily. The sides went well with the currys.

To finish we had orange and chocolate mints and we got given warm towels to clean our faces.

Overall I would score the food and restaurant 19 out of 20, the only one thing that could be improved is by having more garlic on the garlic naan because I love garlic. Next time I would like to try Achari as I have not tried it before, with either lamb or chicken as I liked both meats.

Traditional Indian Curry

I went to an Indian food shop in Peterborough. Outside the shop they had a big selection of vegetables. The people in the shop helped us to work out what vegetables were what, as we hadn’t seen some of them before.

We decided to make a traditional Indian curry and picked traditional Indian vegetables, which were Indian potatoes, Indian pumpkin, okra, aubergine, spinach and courgette to make it with. Then we went inside the shop and choose the shop special spice mix to make our sauce with, we also bought some lentils.

On Tuesday evening mum and I made the curry. We served it with yoghurt and mint sauce, rice and pathia. We ate it later that night and it was delicious! Some of the vegetables I hadn’t even tried before, I found them delicious. The okra had a similar texture to green beans. The sauce was very spicy but it was still really nice, so I had to drink lots of milkshake and water to cool my mouth down.

Cloisters, Stamford, Restaurant Review

After my skiing lesson on Saturday learning to do pizza and chips, which is snow plough turns and parallel straight skiing. We went to Cloisters Italian Restaurant in Stamford. The waitress took us to our table, which overlooked the kitchen, where you could see the chef preparing the food. We ordered off the three course lunch menu.

Dad and I ordered the antipasti starter of cured meats, sliced ham, olives, pickled vegetables, grilled focaccia bread with a rocket salad.  My favourite bit of the starter was the cured meats, because I like salami and there was salami on it. I also liked the olives because they had a nice strong flavour. I scored the starter 10 out of 10, but I would have given it 11 if there was more meat! Mum ordered tomato, basil and red onion bruschetta. Mum liked her starter so much she finished it before I got a chance to try some!

For the mains Mum ordered the Quattro Stagioni pizza,  which was mushrooms, artichokes, mozzarella, red pepper and tomatoes served with fries, and Dad and I ordered the Napoli pizza, which had tomato, mozzarella, ham, salami , mushrooms and roasted red pepper on it and it came with salad, but we all shared.

The pizza bases were soft in the middle and crispy on the crust. The toppings were also very tasty. My favourite out of the two pizzas was the Napoli because it had no artichokes on it and it had lots of salami and I love salami. I would give this 10 out of 10. I didn’t like the dressing on the salad as it was too vinegary so I gave this 1 out of 10. Next time I would ask for no dressing on the salad.

To finish we ordered the cheesecake and sorbet. Out of the two desserts I preferred the sorbet and gave it 9 out of 10, as it was really nice and very fruity. The biscuit base on the cheesecake was quite nice but the filling was a bit too nutty for me. So my score is 5 out of 10.

Finally I would score the restaurant service 10 out of 10, because the waitress was quite friendly. She was checking all the food to make sure Mum could eat it because Mum has a food allergy, and I would come back again.

My First Review: The Deeping Stage

The Stage Meal Drawing

My first review is of The Deeping Stage in Market Deeping. Aunty Val, Mum, Dad and me went out for a meal here on Tuesday evening. We choose where we sat in the restaurant as it wasn’t very busy. We picked an octagon shaped table near the back door so I could play in the play park while we waited for the food.

There was a main, early bird and children’s menu. I chose scampi chips and beans off the children’s menu. Mum ordered lamb, dauphinoise potatoes and green vegetables. Dad picked chicken in a mushroom sauce with dauphinoise potatoes and garlic green beans and Aunty Val chose king prawns and chorizo linguine, all from the main menu.

I tasted 3 of the meals and scored them all out of ten. My favourite was the lamb dish. I rated it 10 out of 10 because it was nice, pink and tender and the potatoes were nice and creamy. I gave the scampi 9 out of 10 as it was nice and soft on the inside and the bread crumbs were crispy on the outside. The prawns got a score of 8 as I like them but wasn’t the best prawns I have tasted in the world. These were the garlic prawns in Gran Canaria. Next time I would like to taste all the meals, as I didn’t taste the chicken and would have liked too.

After the main meal I went and got the desert board and read out the desert menu. We chose the chocolate brownie with ice cream, blackcurrant sorbet and the lemon posset. My favourite was the brownie as it was very chocolaty. The sorbet was cold and sharp but I still liked it. I liked the posset but it was my least favourite dessert as it needs to be sharper so more lemons need to be added. Also the berry compote on the top had too many blackcurrants in it for me. I would rather have a strawberry and raspberry compote with it instead.

We all really enjoyed our meal and would come back. I would like to try the pizza night next time.

Also next time when I go out for dinner I would take photographs of the meals so I can add them into my next review.

Bye Bye for now.
